Brother Sing Cheong Tien

Church in Singapore

30.April.2022

Dear Joseph, Marrina, Corrina and the Jeng Family

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say a few words at today’s Memorial Meeting for Bro Jeng Guang Ming.

Mag and I send our Most Sincere Condolences on the passing of your dear father.

I looked up my diary and confirm that it was on 13.Aug.2019, Mag, together with our son and daughter in law visited your father and then had lunch with him and Corrina. We were happy to see him in good health. It was a quick lunch. His parting words to me was simple “Bro Sing Cheong , be very clear about one Church and one Location”. I replied, “Yes, I understand”.

This was a unique burden which Our Lord bestowed on Bro Jeng Guang Ming and he was faithful on this vision through his life.

The Church in Singapore, for the past many weeks, was on the First Letter to the Thessalonians.

Beginning of chapter 3, Paul says on behalf of his fellow workers, “Therefore, we could no longer endure it…”. I said to myself, Paul is a man of steel. His fellow workers too. We would not expect Paul to say he cannot endure. We expect Paul to declare he can endure everything.

The truth is, none of us is a “man of steel”.

Bro Jeng had a special calling to serve the Lord. He never mentioned to me any challenges he faced. Nevertheless, I am sure he had enough trying times to the point he may also want to say “I can no longer endure…”. But he prevailed. He fully lived out the word that Our Lord’s Grace was sufficient for him through his long life of 100 years. We thank Our Lord for Bro Jeng.

Joseph, Marrina, Corrina and the Jeng Family, Mag and I share your grief of this loss. We understand the pain.

We wish you well.
